ROTE’s Hit or Skip: Middle East

As you can see Tony has restarted the blog for his current travels and as I’m on the road as well in the Middle East it seems fitting that I chime in. ROTE is in my mind an adventure blog. It’s a chronicle of two jet-lagged and at times seemingly reckless guys exploring new places and cultures and documenting those journeys to share with family and friends. Tony and I have both taken wildly different paths since our first post back in the summer of 2009 and as I write this now find myself in Beirut Lebanon working on a documentary project and eating feta cheese thinking about my grandmother’s kitchen. There are car horns outside. I always thought no one place could possibly have more car horns sound at one time than Beijing China. I was wrong. Beirut sounds much how I imagine a group of first grade children would if given air horns and stuck in a windowless prison cell. I haven’t been doing much tourism as of late so the type of postings that I once tapped out here won’t be happening again. I have however visited, drove past, and slept in some well-known and not so well-known cities recently. So for anyone following along interested in random towns across the Middle East like Ramtha Jordan or Reyhanli Turkey, I’ll be posting a new series here called Hit or Skip: ROTE’s City Review Guide. The posts will be short. Very Short. They’ll lack wit. They actually won’t be much of anything, but hey, what is.
